Description

I'm a deep sky observing Junkie. I have had a 20" Dob for over 30 years. I like to challenge my observing skills and as such I look through astronomy journals for interesting and obscure objects. Occasionally I find something really interesting. Many years ago I came across an article about a newly discovered Supernova Remnant in Centaurus and I marked it on my Uranometria. I subsequently observed the nebula several new moons later and I have revisited to object several times with various other telescopes including my 25" Obsession. I have been shooting some obscure nebula recently in Vela and Carina and I remembered the SNR in Centaurus. Here for the first time, ESO217-25 what I have called the Mermaid nebula as it like the mythical creature with her tail up.
